Your Computer’s Been Stolen!

Oh no! Well, we certainly don’t hope this ever happens. But if it does, at least you’ve prepared ourselves the best you can. Now what’s your next step?

As soon as you discover that your laptop has gone missing, you should report the theft to the authorities. Then, log onto www.whostolemypc.com and click My Account. Locate the computer on the list and click Manage.

The following commands can be added:

Within a few hours of communicating with the server, your computer should start relaying information to you. The thief may avoid using the Internet with your computer, for fear that WhoStoleMyPC will spring into action. But as mentioned on the previous page, the computer will shift into Watchdog Mode and execute the commands you specified before it was stolen.

Although our discussion describes assigning commands after the computer’s been stolen, you are welcome to specify these commands ahead of time.
